A news report suggests that there is a remarkable rise in the number of online banking customers in Ireland, but Ireland is still far behind when compared to other major nations in Europe.

The Irish Banking Federation (IBF) and The Irish payment Service Organization (IPSO) submitted a report on online banking, according to which almost 2.7 million customers were registered for the online banking facility at the end of 2010. Total 415,000 new customers were registered for online banking previous year. IBF hopes for further significant growth in the figures.

Online banking will reduce the dependence on cash and based payment. Previous year Irish customers used online banking services to access their accounts 150 million times, an increase of 10.4% on 2009. Whereas the customers made 38.6 million payments via internet banking, an increase of 11.7% compared to 2009 figures.
